Free activity for adults & children with disabilities
National Museum of Australia
Guided exhibition tour and music workshop
The National Museum of Australia, in collaboration with Music For Everyone, invites adults with disabilities, and children with disabilities and their families, to visit the Museum for a unique holiday activity, free of charge. Participants will enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition, Water: H2O=Life, followed by a group music workshop exploring the exhibition’s theme, led by Music For Everyone’s experienced staff. No previous musical experience is necessary. There is a morning workshop for children with disabilities and their families, and an afternoon workshop fro adults with disabilities: please download and read the activity note for each workshop carefully. Places are limited, so bookings are essential – download your booking form below. Contact Music For Everyone on 6230 7190 or info@mfe.org.au for ALL inquiries about this activity. Please note: the MFE office is CLOSED from Saturday 19 December 2009 to Sunday 10 January 2010. The MFE office reopens on Monday 11 January 2010.

Holiday workshop for youth 11 to 16yrs

Do you play in a band? Do you want to play in a band? School’s in this January holidays for young rock musos aged 11-16 years at Music For Everyone’s ROCK SCHOOL. Enjoy a fun five days of afternoon workshops in electric lead guitar, bass guitar, drum-kit, and vocals. Get expert teaching and tips on playing rock music, great jam sessions together as bands, plus onstage sound training and performing, with professional band players as your coaches. Please note this workshop is not for beginners – participants must have some experience playing their instrument or singing. There is a showcase concert for family and friends on Sunday 31 January at 6pm at the Ainslie Arts Centre & an additional performance opportunities (times to be confirmed) at the National Multicultural Festival on the following weekend Sat 6 & Sun 7 February. Participants must be available to take part in these performances. Some vacancies still available for BASS PLAYERS or for ELECTRIC GUITARISTS who are willing to switch to BASS: we can provide you with a bass guitar and the tutors will get you playing bass in no time! If you are interested, download the application form and get it back to the MFE office as soon as possible. All other places are now full.

At the end of their week-long holiday workshop, the youth bands from SmokeFree Rock School perform what they have learnt and created at this free showcase concert. Everyone welcome.

- SINGING
Tuesday 2 February

6.00-6.45pm: Adults
Develop your natural voice and learn the basic techniques for singing rock, pop, jazz and other contemporary styles of music, in an enjoyable and supportive group tuition program. Classes for adults, and a youth class for ages 14 to 17 years. Come along to a free come and try session for this program - no previous experience necessary, just bring your voice!
There are performing ensembles for adults and teens from 15 years who play strings, acoustic guitar, saxophone, clarinet and mixed winds. If you’re interested in joining any MFE ensembles, get in touch with the MFE office and we’ll make a time for you to meet with the ensemble tutor and come along to try out playing with the ensemble that suits you. ActewAGL Contact Canberra is hosted by the Citizens Advice Bureau and runs 11am to 5pm in Garema Place and City Walk Civic. This event is an expo of Canberra's community life. MFE will have a stall at this event with info and advice available on all our programs – come along and say hello.
ACT UP SING OUT The Musicians of Bremen
Junior Music Theatre Workshop for 7-11 yrs

Based on the traditional Brothers Grimm fairytale about abandoned farm animals who dream of becoming town musicians, this fun-filled musical for children also features other story-book characters like the Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks, & the Three Bears! You’ll learn singing, dancing and acting at your weekly workshops in Terms 1 & 2, plus give four fabulous performances for kids, families and friends at the end of the workshop in June. No previous experience necessary. Workshop sessions are Mondays 5.00-6.30pm in Terms 1 & 2. Come along to the Info Session and find out more.
