Programs > Music for People with DisabilitiesMusic for People with DisabilitiesMusic For Everyone (MFE) offers a program of music for people with disabilities in two areas:
This program provides opportunities to participants to develop skills in physical coordination, concentration, communication, social interaction and self-confidence. The tutors for this program are either experienced music therapists or professional musicians with experience in working with people with special needs. Tutors use a wide variety of materials with both the group classes and individual clients, including music from many cultures and a range of musical instruments. Group activity classes for teens and adultsThese classes are designed to be an enjoyable and stimulating experience. They offer a hands-on, activity-based exploration of music in a fun-filled, supportive atmosphere. These classes are offered at both the Ainslie and Tuggeranong Arts Centres. All activities are geared to the abilities of the participants and include:
Access is provided to a range of musical instruments and to electronic equipment such as CD player, microphone and amplifier. Participants are encouraged to listen to, sing, move to and play music in many different styles from many different cultures. They can also bring in their favourite music to share with the group. Many (but not all) participants attend these classes with their carers, who are expected to play an active role in the class. Individual music therapy sessions for children and adultsThere are a limited number of individual music therapy sessions available with our music therapists. Each individual will be assessed and monitored by the music therapist so that the music activities used in these sessions meet the individual's needs. Interested participants should contact the MFE office to make an initial assessment appointment with the music therapist. Young children with some disabilities can be assessed by the music therapist and may be encouraged to join another program: Please contact the MFE office to make an initial assessment appointment for your child.
