Guitar, Electric and Bass Guitar

This program offers a range of group classes for youth and adults. Students learn the fundamentals of guitar technique, music reading and group performance. This is an excellent way to begin learning guitar and provides a foundation for further guitar studies in any style. The classes run for one hour per week and the class size will be 5-8 students.

Who can join?

Anyone from complete beginners, to those with a little experience, or those who want or refresh their skills. There are also continuing classes at the elementary and intermediate levels.

What do you need?

Guitar

  • A guitar: strongly recommended is a nylon-string ('classical') guitar, which is the easiest for beginners. Some younger students may need to check with the tutor about the size guitar best for them.
  • A guitar footstool

Electric guitar and bass guitar

  • An electric guitar or bass guitar
  • A small practice amp: this must be brought to classes with your guitar

All classes

  • A plastic-sleeve display folder: spiral bound so it will open out on a music stand.
  • Guitar music books: your tutor will advise you which books your group will be using and these can be purchased from music stores.
  • A music stand for home practice
  • Optional: an electronic guitar tuner: the cheapest is fine, but a 'chromatic' tuner is better.

Students in group classes can perform at Music For Everyone concerts and take part in other special events.

For more experienced players, there are also guitar ensembles for youth and adults at Music For Everyone. Playing in an ensemble is a great way to make music with the skills you already have and refine techniques together. For more information:
